GreenUPorto contributes to didactic publication on Radiation Biology

More than 200 renowned international authors in the field of Radiobiology contributed to the free access book

The «Radiobiology Textbook» is just out, with the aim to serve as an educational resource for all those interested in the subject of Radiobiology and to which more than 200 international expert authors contributed, including Prof. Ruth Pereira, Professor and Researcher at the Biology Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, and Director of GreenUPorto.

Covering several subtopics around the theme of Radiobiology, such as the History and basic concepts of Radiation Biology, Environmental Radiobiology, or the Radiobiology of Accidental Exposures, the book presents an integrative perspective on the complexity of Radiobiology, constituting a learning and teaching resource that meets the needs of students, educators, scientists, and medical personnel with an interest in this rapidly evolving discipline.

«This textbook will be very relevant for teaching the subject of Radiobiology and, having been published in Open Access, it has all the conditions to be widely used internationally», states Professor Ruth Pereira.

In collaboration with researchers from the University of Aveiro and international researchers, Ruth Pereira contributed to the chapter of the book on Environmental Radiobiology, which addresses the effects of different types of ionizing radiation on ecosystems at the level of organisms and the abiotic environment (e.g., in movement through the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere) and in food chains, with implications for humans and non-humans.
