SEXSEED: the faces behind the names

The SEXSEED consortium team is coordinated by Sílvia Coimbra, at the University of Porto in Portugal. From Portugal, Sílvia Coimbra managed to establish a multidisciplinary network of scientists from all over the world, proving that science has no boundaries.

Partner laboratories from Italy, Ireland, USA, Australia and Japan, together with Portugal, joined this Research and Innovation Staff Exchange Programme (RISE) to investigate different aspects of the plant reproductive process through the movement of young and established scientists between the different Labs. The SEXSEED consortium will be delivered through personnel exchange between Europe-USA-Australia-Japan. This consortium will give the opportunity to young and experienced researchers to move and to learn. Each group of the consortium is a world-recognised expert, a key requirement to enable efficient training, knowledge-exchange and scientific dissemination.

SexSeed aims to result in an effective integration of individual projects into a coherent research and exchange programme since all partners work on different aspects of the same biological problem: plant reproductive biology. This Consortium will facilitate synergies among the groups by exchange of information and resources such as technological skills and expertise.

This objective is ambitious and can only be attained with the involvement of these partners. The shared expertise is an asset to the success of SexSeed. And, if you are curious, here are the leadings scientists of each partner group:
