Test Images

Sentinel-2 test images (2019) - used in IGARSS 2019, paper [6]
Base, Label (4,5,6 classes) and Reference images (RGB color composites of bands 432 and 843) [SITEF_Base_Label_Ref_images.zip 2 MB], obtained from a Sentinel-2 image of Vila do Conde, Portugal [SITEF_S2_images.zip 5 MB].

The Montalegre dataset (2009) - used in IGARSS 2009, paper [4]
Two base images were initially created, for 5 and 6 land cover types, with s=8, u=3 and r=5. The image size is 540x540 pixels with a total of 1600 parcels. A SPOT HRG satellite image covering a rural area in the northwest of Portugal (Montalegre) was used as reference or signature image. The SPOT image has 4 spectral bands (visible and near infrared) with a spatial resolution of 10 meters. The following land cover classes were used:
A - Irrigated permanent semi-natural mountain meadows
B - Non-irrigated permanent semi-natural mountain meadows
C - Evergreen forests
D - Deciduous forests
E - Communitarian pastures
F - Annual crops
A total of 42 test images were created. Seven sets of land cover classes were used: all 6 classes, and the six sub-sets of 5 classes (5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 5E and 5F, where the last character indicates the class not discarded). Six adjacency scenarios were used: raw, Point Spread function (PSF) only, and PSF + grid offsets of (1/4;0), (1/4;1/4), (1/2;0), (1/2;1/2). [ Montalegre_dataset.zip 58 MB]

The Montalegre dataset (2008) - used in papers [1,2,3]
Six test images were created using SPOT HRG and Landsat TM satellite images as reference. The SPOT image has 4 spectral bands (visible and near infrared) and a spatial resolution of 10 meters, while the he Landsat TM image has 6 spectral bands with 30 m pixel resolution (the thermal band was not used).
A total of 8 land cover types were used:
1 - Irrigated permanent semi-natural mountain meadows
2 - Non-irrigated permanent semi-natural mountain meadows
3 - Evergreen forest
4 - Deciduous forest
5 - Communitarian pastures
6 - Annual crops
7 - Sand
8 – Water
The base image was done with s=8, u=3 and r=5, resulting in images of 540x540 pixels with a total of 1600 parcels.
Three versions were prepared for each satellite sensor, with all 8 classes (SPOT8 [ tif ] [ raw ], TM8 [ raw ]), with the 5 most distinct classes (SPOT5d [ tif ] [ raw ], TM5d [ raw ]) and with the 5 most similar classes (SPOT5s [ tif ] [ raw ], TM5s [ raw ]).
