FACULDADE DE CIÊNCIAS DA UNIVERSIDADE DO PORTO

The Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto - FCUP, created in 1911, was born after a set of schools that in this city provided Higher Education, such as the Aula de Náutica (Nautical School), established in 1762. This School, initially governed by the General Company of Agriculture of the Vineyards of the Alto Douro, founded by the Marquis of Pombal, had as its mission to train the pilots of the boats that carried the Port Wine worldwide.

Probably, this was the first link between the FCUP and the wine. Nowadays, this Faculty participates in the Inter-university Masters in Viticulture and Oenology (in collaboration with the Higher Institute of Agronomy of Technical University of Lisbon and the National Institute of Biological Resources - EVN), in the European Master of EuroMaster Vinifera - Sciences of Viticulture and Enology (Erasmus Mundus Master) and it is involved with those institutions in a Postgraduate degree in Viticulture and Enology.
