How does the FTIR work?

• Because of the need for computers, and lasers, FTIR is very new compared to dispersive infrared spectroscopy.

• Commercial instruments became available in the early 1980s.

• FTIR has several advantages versus dispersive spectroscopy. These are detailed in the next section.
