Aldo Leopold (1886-1948), in his writing entitled The Land Ethic<\/em> that integrates his book\u00a0A Sand County Almanac<\/em>,\u00a0suggests an extended ethical concern to the community that includes soils, water, plants and animals in the scope of Environmental Ethics. The Earth would be looked at as a living system worthy of moral considerations. Nevertheless, probably since ever, geologists have been concerned with Geoethics aspects. Even without using this term, geologists have spoken and written about Ethics in Geosciences for many years. However, the concept of Geoethics gained relevance in several international conferences in the last\u00a0two decades. An elaborate and comprehensive definition dates from 2013 and it can be found at the site of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n

Geoethics consists of the research and reflection on those values upon which to base appropriate behaviours and practices where human activities intersect the Geosphere.<\/em><\/p>\n

Geoethics deals with the ethical, social and cultural implications of geological research and practice, providing a point of intersection for Geosciences, Sociology and Philosophy.<\/em><\/p>\n

Geoethics represents an opportunity for Geoscientists to become more conscious of their social role and responsibilities in conducting their activity.<\/em><\/p>\n

Geoethics is a tool to influence the awareness of society regarding problems related to geo-resources and geo-environment.<\/em><\/p>\n

Geoethics calls for a careful thought on how Humankind interacts with the Geosphere, but it also reflects upon the academic and the professional activities of geologists. Geoethics acknowledges the relevance and the need to search for a code of conduct for geologists, emphasising the role that geologists can have (and should have) in influencing policy makers towards more sustainable choices, including those arising from the techno-sphere field.<\/p>\n

This definition of Geoethics introduces other relevant issues such as the promotion of the social role of Geosciences, in terms of raising awareness to the importance of the geological heritage and its articulation with formal and non-formal educational institutions, so as to assist a correct dissemination of scientific information.<\/p>\n

The purpose of Geoethics is to suggest practical solutions and useful techniques that may encourage a cultural renewal in the way Humankind interacts with the Planet. This asks for an enhanced attention to the protection of life and further implies the recognition of the riches of our planet in all its dimensions.<\/p>\n

This site aims to present relevant news and publications in the field of Geoethics and to offer updated information related to this scientific area, thereby promoting the development of the potential of Geoethics within the community in general.<\/p>\n

Aldo Leopold (1886-1948), no ensaio intitulado The Land Ethic<\/em> que integra o seu livro A Sand County Almanac<\/em>, prop\u00f5e um alargamento \u00e9tico \u00e0 comunidade de forma a incluir solos, \u00e1gua, plantas e animais no dom\u00ednio da \u00c9tica Ambiental. A Terra passaria a ser olhada como um sistema vivo merecedor de considera\u00e7\u00e3o moral. Contudo, provavelmente desde sempre, os ge\u00f3logos se preocuparam com quest\u00f5es de Geo\u00e9tica. Mesmo sem o uso do termo, muito foi escrito e refletido sobre a \u00c9tica nas Geoci\u00eancias. Sobretudo nas \u00faltimas duas d\u00e9cadas, o termo ganhou relev\u00e2ncia em confer\u00eancias internacionais. Uma defini\u00e7\u00e3o \u00a0elaborada e ampla data de 2013 e encontramo-la no endere\u00e7o da International Assotiation for Promoting Geoethics:<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

A Geo\u00e9tica consiste na investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e reflex\u00e3o dos valores que devem<\/em>\u00a0fundamentar\u00a0comportamentos e pr\u00e1ticas \u00a0apropriados em atividades humanas que interferem com a geosfera.<\/em><\/p>\n

A Geo\u00e9tica preocupa-se com as implica\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e9ticas, sociais e culturais \u00a0provenientes da investiga\u00e7\u00e3o geol\u00f3gica, consistindo num ponto de interse\u00e7\u00e3o entre as geoci\u00eancias, a<\/em>\u00a0sociologia e<\/em>\u00a0filosofia.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

A Geo\u00e9tica representa uma oportunidade para os geocientistas terem uma atitude<\/em>\u00a0mais consciente do seu papel social e numa maior responsabilidade na sua pr\u00e1tica profissional.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

A Ge\u00e9tica \u00e9 uma ferramenta para aumentar a consciencializa\u00e7\u00e3o social em rela\u00e7\u00e3o aos problemas relacionados com os recursos geol\u00f3gicos e com o geo-ambiente.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

No \u00e2mbito da Geo\u00e9tica cabe uma reflex\u00e3o acerca do modo como o ser humano se relaciona com a geosfera, mas ressalta igualmente a preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o quanto \u00e0 forma como os ge\u00f3logos atuam no decurso da sua atividade acad\u00e9mica e profissional. A Geo\u00e9tica assume a relev\u00e2ncia e necessidade de procura de um c\u00f3digo de conduta para os ge\u00f3logos no exerc\u00edcio da sua atividade profissional, evidenciando que os ge\u00f3logos podem (e devem) ter um papel influenciador nos decisores pol\u00edticos quanto a escolhas mais sustent\u00e1veis, incluindo as geradas no dom\u00ednio da tecnosfera.<\/p>\n

A finalidade da Geo\u00e9tica \u00e9 sugerir solu\u00e7\u00f5es pr\u00e1ticas e t\u00e9cnicas ut\u00e9is, que promovam uma renova\u00e7\u00e3o cultural na forma como o ser humano se relaciona com o planeta. Implica uma maior aten\u00e7\u00e3o com a prote\u00e7\u00e3o da vida e promove o reconhecimento da riqueza do nosso planeta em todas as suas dimens\u00f5es.<\/p>\n

A Geo\u00e9tica traz tamb\u00e9m significativos contributos para a geoeduca\u00e7\u00e3o, ao desenvolver estrat\u00e9gias e recursos que possibilitam uma consciencializa\u00e7\u00e3o de valores e responsabilidade mais abrangente e concretizada, quer nas escolas quer em locais de ensino n\u00e3o formal como centros de ci\u00eancia viva e, em especial, os geoparques.<\/p>\n

Este s\u00edtio pretende apresentar not\u00edcias relevantes e publica\u00e7\u00f5es no campo da Geo\u00e9tica, mantendo uma informa\u00e7\u00e3o atualizada desta \u00e1rea cient\u00edfica e promovendo o desenvolvimento do seu potencial junto da comunidade em geral.<\/p>\n
