femtolab

At Femtolab, it is being developed a state-of-the-art ultrafast laser system based on Titanium:sapphire technology. This system is based on a home-built, versatile and compact ultrafast laser oscillator, which delivers a few nJ and 8.5 fs laser pulses at an 85 MHz repetition rate. Pulse characterisation is made using a real time computer controlled spectroscopic diagnostic combined with a interferometric autocorrelator. An amplifier is under construction to produce pulses using a modified CPA (Chirped-Pulse Amplification) technique which will allow us to attain instantaneous optical powers of the order of 1 Terawatt (1 TW = 10^12 W) at quite modest energy levels. With this system, laser matter interaction experiments are possible in the very high optical power regime.
