Abstract

The main goal of this work is to integrate graphical information, structured data (ex.: databases) and functionalities that act on both types of information, aiming its use in a distributed environment through the Internet.

Its structure was initially intended to be used in Facilities Management applications, although it can be used by another type of applications that need to integrate graphical information and structured data.

The representation is implemented in Java, taking advantage of being an object-oriented language, and capable of developing applications that are "nested" in a WWW page. This representation is called BlueBase. The structures information is stored in databases. The databases are accessed when applications request the BlueBase objects for structured information.

This project includes a utility program called BindData that allows the creation of BlueBase objects. This utility program uses DXF files to read vector drawings into the system.

The BlueBase objects are intended to be intelligent interfaces between the applications that use them and graphical representation and structured data that composes them. Applications were created that allow to display a building blueprint and to display a city blueprint, and to execute queries to the respective databases, with the intention of testing the functionalities of the BlueBase objects. These applications access to the BlueBase objects through the WWW.
